In February 2017, a new 200-unit community in Maplewood, New Jersey burned down. “In one night, we went from 18 months of construction progress to nothing.” Said Head of Safety, Jeff Hutchens. AVB came to Pillar in search of a better advance warning system.
Over 1100 sensors in 17 construction sites. Pillar sensors allow Jeff to monitor environmental conditions on all of his active construction sites. Pillar’s products are designed to survive the construction site and broadcast data in real time to a cloud-based platform. The sensors allow them to monitor a variety of potentially hazardous environmental conditions in real-time, including freezing temperatures, potential fire risks, pre-mold conditions, and more.
With Pillar AVB has managed to detect and resolve a number of potentially disastrous situations before they could spiral out of control. These include water leaks and sites reaching dangerously high temperatures—potentially pre-fire conditions. Other benefits have included, Superintendents leveraging Pillar data to gain exceptions to building codes, & AVB senior leaders at gain a more accurate understanding of where each project is at. Framing schedule accuracy on all of their wood-frame projects is up 25%.
